Outpatient Surgery
Surgery > Outpatient Surgery
Outpatient surgery is used for many different types of surgeries such as breast implants and other plastic surgeries, bunion surgeries, D&C surgery, and laser surgeries. Basically, any surgery that requires minimal intrusion to the body and minor openings to the skin is considered outpatient surgery. Many outpatient surgeries can be performed within an hour or two and healing can be done with little to no supervision at all. Outpatient surgery is more and more common now that emergency rooms are filling up to capacity and doctor’s and nurses are in high demand due to a lack of adequate personnel.
Many people are afraid to get outpatient surgery as they believe that they have to be under the supervision of a doctor in order to heal properly. With the ease of most surgeries that are performed today, that couldn’t be any further from the truth. Why would a hospital waste valuable space in keeping a patient that has two stitches in order to correct a problem or injury with surgery than to use that space for a patient that has more sever symptoms? The fact is, they won’t because it is simply not feasible.
Of course there are also many people that prefer to recuperate at home rather than at a hospital and for these people, outpatient surgery is ideal. So many surgeries are now performed on an outpatient basis that it seems that only major or invasive surgeries are performed with patients staying in the hospital these days. It may sound scary for some people, but outpatient surgery is probably the most effective way to operate. People always benefit from in home care better than in a hospital because the area is more comfortable, the food is always better and the care and company cannot be beat. If you are opted to have outpatient surgery, you should count your blessings.
