Ovarian Cancer …often the symptoms are so mild that they go unnoticed until it is too late to treat it. Some of the symptoms of ovarian cancer included, abdominal bloating, a change in bladder/ bowel movements, fatigue that does not go away, and pain during intercourse to name a few. If not caught in time, sadly for the women and her family the battle is over before it can be fought . Who is at risk? If you have a family history of cancer whether it is ovarian, colon, or breast, age can play a role in this disease, and a number of cases are found in a non child bearing women.
Ovarian cancer is very treatable, with early detection. The media is trying to educate doctors and patients what to look for, and with better understanding and a complete medical history perhaps more cases will be found at the early stages. A yearly pap test can detect ovarian cancer at the early stages, however a very low number of patients are diagnosis in the early stages, before the cancer has gone beyond the ovaries.
Ovarian Cancer shows only mild symptoms, and so you know of someone that has this deadly disease but does not know it. If your family has a history of this disease tell your doctor, and a close eye can be kept on it. Remember cancer caught in the early stages can be cured, it is only when it spreads to other parts of your body, that the disease wins the battle.
Today there is not definite way to determine whether a women showing any of the above symptoms does indeed have Ovarian cancer, so all the information that your doctor has is to your advantage. The C word is one of the most scary words any person can hear from a doctor, but if you hear it early…it can save your life.
