A stomach ulcer is a leason on the inner wall of your stomach lining. Your stomach has a protective lining of mucus that stops the acid in your stomach from eating away at this lining. Large amounts of stress, or the use of aspirin can break down this lining allowing the acid to eat away at the lining of your stomach.
People have been known to mistake an ulcer as hungry pains, as the feeling comes and goes. The pain in the stomach area can last up to 3-4 hours, and may occur in some patients only after they eat. Rapid weight loss or gain ( yo-yo) can occur due to the fact the person tries to alleviate the pain but eating and then stopping. In some cases the person may be prone to vomit, for no apparent reason. Anemia is a side affect that might be a warning sign your doctor may look for.
A person with a stomach ulcer may be put on a strict bland diet. It is best to avoid alcohol and acidic foods. A medication may be prescribed but not always necessary. The doctor will warn the patient that stress is a enemy and can lead to further destruction in the stomach lining.
