Teen people today are suffering the effects of depression and it is a serious illness if left uncontrolled. Depression is one of the leading causes that are associated with suicide, cutting and accidental overdose. It can cause serious problems in school, with friendships, and families. The feeling of despair and loneliness can lead to many different problems that can effect overall teen health.
Depression can have a toll on teen health and can lead to a life-threatening situation such as suicide. Teen health is greatly effected when a teenager is deeply depressed. A depressed teen usually doesn't get the proper nutrition or sleep, and will may start having some form of drug or alcohol related addiction. Since most people act different in their teen years, many families don't see the warning signs until it is much too late.
Depression can lead to other factors that can contribute bad effects on teen health. It can lead to multiple partners, or a sexual transmitted diseases (STD's). Many teens with a negative feeling, and depressed state mind, find themselves in a world of promiscuous sex and in a form of prostitution. Because when a teen is depressed he or she may find comfort in the opposite sex, and causing them to make bad choice and find themselves in bad situations. This is not good idea because of the wide spread of AIDS in the world today. With this in mind that is why you as a parent should always try to notice problems when they arise and seek a professionals help as soon as possible.
Some other health issues that can't be avoided are usually out of the hands of a teen. Some are so depressed that they get angry and can't control their tempers. They need help with anger management if they can't do control it on their own. They may need to talk to a therapist and discuss why the depression they are feeling is causing them so much anger. They need to find the root of the depression. Find out what caused it in the first place. This off the wall anger that is brought on by depression can lead to a lot of health factors later on down the road. They can get violent and hurt themselves, or worse they can hurt someone else. Therapists my want to closely monitor a severe angry patient in this state because of the seriousness of the teens health.
At one point in all teen years your child will become depressed, whether it be because she didn't make the lead in the school play or he didn't make the football team. These types of depressions are all a normal and healthy part of your teenagers life. But if you notice that they are withdrawing from you, their friends and the fun activities they use to participate in, then it is time to worry and try talking to them. Teen health is nothing to mess around with. What is caught early can usually be cured and they can go on living out their teen years as they were meant to be lived.
