Teen Health and the Diet Pill Fad
Teen Health > Teen Health and the Diet Pill Fad
Teen health is greatly compromised by television commercials showing women who are beautiful and are all a size zero. Your teen watches television and society is telling them that this is what you should be. Some teens are turning to diet pills to get to that size zero that everyone talks about so much. Teen magazines don't help matters much either. The girls in those magazines that are modeling clothing are all a tiny size. Girls who read these magazines sometimes look up to models and those super skinny stars. They want to look just like them. Some teen girls will do anything to look like them.
Diet pills, along with anorexia and bulimia are one of the worst diets to be on. It seems diet pills are the newest fad in teen dieting. Advertisements flood the television with the newest and best diet pills on the market promising that you will lose all the weight that you want to in a month. Teenagers see this and automatically believe it from the before and after pictures of the people who supposedly have taken the same pills.
Some of these diet pills can put teen health in jeopardy with high blood pressure, heart palpitations, irregular heartbeats, dizziness, blurred vision, headaches, insomnia, anxiety, depression and sometimes even death. Teen health is no joking matter. Diet pills may seem like the miracle pill and on television it is, but in real life, it can be deadly.
There are healthier ways of losing weight that doesn't affect teen health in any bad ways, if you feel that you need to drop a few pounds. Start by exercising daily or every other day. Staying fit can raise your metabolism and you can burn those extra calories from that fudge brownie sundae you ate. Exercising isn't just good for burning calories, but also for making your heart and lungs stronger. Even jogging around the block or riding your bike can improve your health a great deal.
Be sure not to skip meals, especially breakfast. Skipping meals puts a negative affect on teen health and makes your body hang fat, thinking it is not going to get another meal for a long time. Stay away from fats like greasy French fries and pizza. Make half of your plate with fruits and vegetables. These will give you the vitamins you need to improve teen health and not give you many calories. If you load up on low calorie foods, you will feel fuller faster and in turn not eat that much. Read labels and only eat the serving size. Drink plenty of water and steer clear of caffeine and soft drinks.
If you follow those ways of eating, it can greatly improve teen health and if you carry it out your entire life, you will be well on your way of managing your weight and being health for life. Your entire family can join in on this and have your entire household eating healthy and exercising daily.
