Those of us who are overweight, who have weight issues, or who are simply obsessed with weight and weight loss are usually on the hunt for the ideal weight loss diet. But oh, what we have to go through before we come to realize what works is what fits our lifestyle, our needs, our preferences, and our body types.
In other words, most of usually "fail" at the weight loss diet that involves one full week-seven straight days---of an all banana and skim milk menu. Most of usually fail at the weight loss diet that has the words "grapefruit diet" in it. Most of usually fail at the weight loss diet that is printed on a grey sheet, is prayed over at meetings three times a day, and is a boot camp series of guilt-drawn confessions to a sponsor who demanded we call to report one bite of sugar or flour (after going 30 days without any of either!).
A good weight loss diet does not hurt, deprive, or backfire on us. A good weight loss diet doe not include harassment by cruel and judgmental bullies, haranguing and self-destruction, or any other absurdities that only serve to strip us of water weight or muscle tone and send us back into eating ourselves into the next size up from where we started before we started to "diet".
Instead, a good, effective weight loss diet is the one that includes a consultation with nutrition experts and medical professionals who know what will best serve our health needs, is one that works for us. On such a diet, we are not hungry, we are not resentful of the deprivation that convinces us we are bad and are being punished, and we are not so crazy that we cannot control ourselves by day three and instead dive head first into the nearest open bakery. That is, we are best served by a weight loss diet that is perfect for our energy levels, and so is packed with proteins. We are best served by the diet that agrees with our appetites, and so allows a reasonable bit of cake or pie. We are best served by the food plan that gives us enough vitamins and requires enough bread that our round or pear-shaped or top-heavy body shape is still nourished and at the same time slides nicely into the one size smaller we have been saving in the closet.
