Do you want to lose a few pounds before the big holiday season or maybe just so you’ll look fabulous in that new little black dress you bought at the mall the other day? Well, here are a few tips to help you do just that. Try vegetables. We all know that vegetables and fruits have very few calories and they are packed full of vitamins and minerals.
The food pyramid says that we should all have at least five to nine fruits and vegetables a day. You’re probably wondering how that is possible. Well, it’s very simple. Breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day. So why not start out your mornings with 100 percent fruit or vegetable juice. That would be one of your servings for the day. Next, maybe add some fresh blueberries, strawberries, bananas or raspberries to your bowl of cereal. That would make up for a total of two fruit servings so far into your day and you will be off to a great start.
For lunch you could try a garden salad with a fruit and yogurt parfait. That would add two more servings of the fruits and a vegetable you need, giving you a total of four servings so far and your day isn’t even over yet. Perhaps you enjoy a mid afternoon snack. Drop that donut or candy bar and try an apple, grapes, or maybe some carrot or celery sticks.
Dinner is where many people pick up the most calories. Many dinners include a lot of pastas or meats that are full of calories and carbohydrates and not many other choices. Try adding a garden salad with light dressing to your dinner. Add some vegetables to it as well. If you’re making a steak, try wrapping it in foil with some mushrooms, onions, celery, and carrots; baking in the oven for a couple of hours for a delicious change in your menu. This will reduce the grease from it being fried in a frying pan and lower your calories to while adding vegetables to your entre. Add more vegetables as your side items and there you will have a delicious meal the entire family will enjoy.
And let’s not forget about desert. A fruit bowl is a great desert for children and adults alike. Try mixing it up with fruits your family normally doesn’t eat. Try a tropical fruit salad and add a little bit of whipped cream for a special treat. These are all great ways to cut down on your calories and increase your chances of weight loss, along with improving your healthy eating habits.
