There are lots of people who "think" they know what causes Acne but the reality is that nobody knows for sure.

The sebaceous glands actually produce the sebum and if these glands get over-stimulated then too much sebum is produced. This excess oil then prevents the dead skin cells that we shed all the time from getting to the skin's surface. We then end up with pimples or what scientists sometimes refer to as “Comedoes”. In severe cases of Acne, the lesions or nodules can cause permanent scars due to the extent of inflammation into the underlying skin tissue. What is not known is what causes the sebaceous glands to become over-stimulated. It seems that there are likely to be a variety of factors ranging from hormones to genetics. We do know that teenagers and pregnant women or those on birth control pills are more prone to Acne than others. Other suggested causes include stress, diet, stress, uncleanliness, deficiencies in vitamin intake and even drugs like Lithium through to the use of certain cosmetics and skin care products (particularly chemical-based ones). HOW DO I GET RID OF OLD ACNE SCARS
